This place gets four stars for the affordable prices, nice atmosphere and excellent service . Would've gotten five but the food was not delicious. It was okay. Drinks were delicious. I'll start out by saying I really enjoyed my visit because my waiter was AWESOME! And that makes all the difference! He was friendly talkative well spoken and accommodating. We ordered papa tacos w avocado only charged is 25cents for avocado which is excellent because some places gouge you ! Also ordered caldo de pollo & a palmagranite marguerita w a coronita in it. Drink was great!!! I enjoyed my visit because the chips and salsa were free , the drink was yummy , the waiter was very nice and the nice spanish music was perfect & relaxing. Also the decor is fun & bright . But the food is just okay. I say this because the soup I ordered was probably the worst caldo de pollo I've had . The chicken was yucky the vegetables were under cooked there was no potatoes AT ALL???? Who makes caldo pollo without potatoes ??? The rice on the bottom was good though. The tacos de papa were decent , salsa verde was good. Dessert was really really yummy! We got the chimichangas all three flavors strawberry , chocolate & sour cream! I recommend those for sure!!! Our waiter handled my request to send the soup back with no problem which I really appreciated because it's hard to send stuff back , I always feel guilty for asking to take stuff off my bill that I don't care for. I did try to like the soup I really did. I doctored it up as much as I could. We had come for taco Tuesday based on decent yelp reviews. I believe I will come back to this restaurant because it's such a nice atmosphere. But the quality of taste in food should be looked at a little more. This place would've definitely gotten five stars from me if I had enjoyed the rest of my meal as much as I enjoyed the dessert and drink. Thank you to our waiter for giving us a discount on the bill that was very very kind of him. Because of his excellent service I may visit again when in the mood for a drink or 99cent tacos.

I really like this place and its mind blowing to me as to why it's always so empty when I come here, even on a Saturday. I think this restaurant is the quintessential example of why location is the key to getting good business. Even though it's located on the Main Street of Temple City, the restaurant gets lost on the busy street. Big portions. Tasty flavor. Friendly service. Two thumbs up for me.

Service was all right, but the food was terrible. We ordered taquitos and burritos plates and molcajete. The prices were not cheap. The meals came with chips and salsa. The veggies came with the meals were the cooked frozen veggies, portion sizes were not generous and just not as authentic. If you want authentic and delicious Mexican food, you have got to go to Taco Baja Ensenada at East Los Angeles or Tacos Ensenada in Durate they have 98 cents fish tacos or any meat taco during one of the weekdays! Best shrimp, fish burritos and shrimp ceviche at East LA Taco Baja Ensenada. We definitely won't be here back again.

We were looking for a sit down Mexican Restaurant as we're driving through the area. Cute restaurant, friendly service, good food exactly what we were looking for. Large portions and very inexpensive. Glad we found this place!

I went here with my brother and grandma for lunch. It wasn't super busy and I don't know why. The food was really good, and the deluxe burritos are gigantic.

Just tried to come here to get take out. 35 minutes before listed closing the door was locked and the lights were off. Waste of a trip.

My burrito was a bid dry inside. They offered me green salsa but it was just ok. Service is great though it was a bid empty when i went for a quick friday lunch.

On that particular day we went here, the service was extremely slow, to the point of 5 minutes gap between chips and salsa! They were short staffed, I could see that! But they were nice people. Food was better than average.

I've driven by this place like a million times, but for some reason I never stopped in try it out until now. I'm glad I finally did, because the food is tasty, the service is pretty decent, and the prices are reasonable. There were many great sounding menu items to choose from; I ended up going with the shrimp enchiladas plate (green sauce). It was very appetizing, and the portion size was extremely filling - I was nearly unable to finish it (despite starting with an empty stomach). Unfortunately, the horchata served here is Horchata Ole, and not the really good "home-made" kind ladled from a cartoonishly massive glass jar. The waiter provided service with a smile, and was very good about ensuring my tortilla chips and horchata were replenished as needed. Parking is easily obtained on either the curb in front, or in the public parking lot just north of the restaurant. I was tempted to give this restaurant a full 5/5 rating, but decided not to because the check was brought to me before I asked for it - this is a major pet peeve of mine, as I can never interpret the action as telling me anything other than "GTFO!". As a result, as a matter of general principle, I cannot give a 5/5 rating to *any* full-service restaurant that does that to me. Despite that quibble, I will definitely return here, and I hope to give their flan a try.

Inconsistent operating hours. We came for Taco Tuesday. Hours here say opened until 8:30 p.m. Don't bother coming in at 7:30 for dine in because we were told they were about to close. WTF? I have never been told this before! Closing a full hour before actually closing?! I am highly suspicious that these 5-star reviews are from friends and family. Every time we pass by, it is empty.

  • Buffy T.

The service is very nice but the food isn't good. I hate to say it cause the people are really nice and it's a mom and pop place which I love but sadly I will not be coming back here.

I was wary walking in, as the place looked like a hole in the wall and everyone inside was a senior citizen. There was a slightly odd odor in the room, and two guys working the place, which seemed slightly run down. But, I have to say most of the food was really quite delicious. First the bad. I asked for a margarita on the rocks and was given a frozen drink. Decided to keep it, but it was all slush and wouldn't melt. Didn't help that there was barely any liquor in it. Only other problem was more egregious. I ordered chicken strips off the kids menu for my son and was pretty horrified to see them serve him Dino nuggets you buy in the frozen food section at the supermarket. Not cool. But, we started with the Fiesta Platter. Basically a huge appetizer sampler for two that is almost enough for a meal. You get two hard beef tacos, four slices of cheese quesadilla, a sope with choice of meat, two flautas, and a couple of taquitos. Great way to try all this stuff. I really liked everything. Missus has the garlic butter shrimp. The taste was good but the shrimp were kind of small. Finally, I had the huge molcajete, which has beef, chicken, and chorizo along with cheese and cactus. It was positively delicious. Even left overs the next day were great.

Just not agreat place for true authentic Mexican food. I will not be returning here ever. Food tasted stale and out of a can. Jamaica was over sweet as well as mole enchiladas. Left a bad taste in my mouth. The only reason I gave 2 starts is because of the service. Take your chances but I do not recommend this place.

    (2)
  • Tom D.

If you've never eaten at this little restaurant and you plan on so doing, you must - must - try the Molcajete. The sauce in which the various items sit is fantastic. Rich, spicy and a bit smokey. The dish, in terms of food quantity, is a perfect dinner for two. As for the service, the two waiters hosting us were very friendly and attentive. This was our first experience here. We'll be back for another Molcajete soon...:-))

  • Tina M.

99 cent taco Tuesday! I got 5 tacos, carne Asada, chicken, shredded beef, carnitas, and el pastor. I like that the carnitas was not greasy, they were dry and crispy. The staff was very friendly asking us if we needed more drinks or chips and salsa refills.

  • Sherry W.

My fiancee and I went in once for dinner, trying to explore the area a bit more. We sat down, and was about to order 3 dishes, so we have some leftovers. The waiter was so nice and told us that they have big portions and 2 would probably be enough for us, including leftovers. He wasn't kidding. The portions were HUGE and very tasty. Unfortunately, the second time we went back, they were at an expo or some contest. But we will definitely be returning for that delicious food!

  • Davina D.

I thought this place was ok. It depends on what you get in order to get your monies worth. Taquitos are not worth the price and the salsa is like tomato paste style. I had the mole chicken which was good and my bf had asada fries which was huge! He liked it a lot and would come back just for that. Like previous yelpers it is dead in here prolly won't last long cuz of location and need to adjust prices and use fresh veges...

Im new to yelp. Actually just opened my account thanks to friends that pushed it on me after I told them what happened eating here. Im not one to bash on businesses especially family owned but if anything maybe they will get something out of it. I have been here several times before deployment with my mom when the old owner was around. Well he denied to be the owner but im pretty sure he was. Young guy with with glasses well mannered most likely military. Food was good and the service even better! He made u feel like family. I recently got engaged and found out we are expecting so why not celebrate. Showed up lunch hour kinda slow but not dead. The place seemed the same but our waiter took his time to greet us no biggie im pretty sure his text message was very important. We sat down ordered got our drinks everything ok till the food showed up. I ordered tacos no cilantro get tacos with only cilantro. Wth. Tell our server he got my order wrong and he disagrees with me saying its what I ordered. Really so ur telling me I dont know what I eat or dont eat? Tip of the ice berg. I let it be get up to wash my hands walk pass the kitchen and I hear the server talking to the cooks and making gestures of what he would do to my fiancee. Blowing a head gasket! If I wasn't starting my family it would of been a different story. Never in my life felt so disrespected. Didnt even bother to eat just paid our bill and left. Never again will I eat here. Id rather eat overseas.

Tried this place for the first time. I had been sick with the stomach flu and had the caldo de res. just what I needed to help make me feel better. It was pretty tasty

Bomb food. Finally some real deal authentic Mexican food. Alfredo's has been demoted to drunk nights only... Make sure u get their fish taco it's so damn delicious!! And .99 tacos??? Can't beat that!!

    (5)
  • Natalie C.

Thought it would be better from all the 5stars and reviews this place has. The carne asada wasn't tasty at all very dry. The red and green sauce smelled like can sauce and tasted like can sauce. NOT mexcian fine food.

  • Kat D.

My husband and i enjoyed our two Saturday lunches here. I had fish tacos both times, which were delicious, and my husband had the sope and taco combo. He enjoyed his food too. The wait staff is prompt and friendly. The chips are great. The salsa is very flavorful, though mild. Happily, there is piquant salsa if you ask for it. The bathroom is clean. (Yes, I am one of those who will deduct a star or two for a dirty bathroom.) I'll report back when I've eaten more items. I might be giving them a five.

Great tasty Mexican food. Amazing micheladas and house margaritas are always on point.

  • Paul I.

This is the real deal people. The food here is authentic Mexican food compare to most place on the 626 area. The waiter was very friendly and helpful on recommendation. Ended up getting a big daddy burrito to go. When my order was done. It came in with a nice cratering aluminum box. I didn't expect the burrito to be humongous!! I'm a big fan and support mom and pops especially the genuine one's. I love how they put in their labor of love into the food they make. Unlike chain story that make food with no heart or soul just to make profit. Keep up the good work!! I will be back to grub on some more good foodies!! hehe.

Perfectly proportioned asada burrito for $6.95. Great service and even better food. Salsa for the chips unique and flavorful. Must return for happy hour.

I had lunch here for the first time this past Monday. The lack of any other clientele initially gave me pause, but the friendly, knowledgeable waiter and clean, comfortable atmosphere quickly eased my apprehensions. I ordered the chicken flautas which were all white meat and came with house guacamole and hot sauces. Everything was delicious; I will definitely be back the next time I am in the area.

  • Wendy C.

I've been here 2x now (both for week night dinner) and I have to say the food is pretty good. I've had their garlic shrimp (not enough garlic) and their "Make Your Own Combo" plate which i picked flauta and sope. The food was good though the rice could use a bit more seasoning. Service was nice, friendly though nothing spectacular even tho there was only 1other occupied table at the time I was there. One of the better mexican restaurants in the close vicinity but if I could wait to eat dinner late, I would go to the taco truck on rosemead.

A surprising change to 5818!!! I tried the two item "make yourself" combo and it was memorable experience. The combo plates here are unique. Besides being perfectly seasoned, they come with a side of veggies. A refreshing change of pace for a Mexican restaurant. The rice was not your standard "orange" rice, but had bits of veggies. It is also served in its own dish so the sauces won't mix in. The beans were very smooth and tasty; no whole beans. The chips and salsa were also pretty good. The salsa was different from other restaurants where it is an orange/red and has its own distinct flavor which can't be described. Will come back just for the salsa. The chips weren't greasy and had a good texture. The staff is very friendly and seem to generally care about the patrons. This place is not another incarnation of Beto's; a total new place. Anyone with a bad Beto's experience must come back and give these folks a try!!!

I love this place for Mexican food, so good and such great customer service. I will definitely be coming back here. They have so many different combinations of food and the margaritas are especially good. Not to mention, whatever you want to order however you want it done, they will do it for you here. Love this place!!!!!!!!!!!!

This place is fantastic! The food is really good, and the prices are nearly unbeatable. For to go orders (which is most of mine) they have it ready in 10 minutes and really make sure you're taken care of. If you're in TC, I highly recommend.

Awesome service. Awesome food. Awesome price. Overall, AWESOME! Since it was my first time there, I wasn't sure what to get. I called in the order and asked if the Super Fries and an order of taquitos were enough...they recommended a few tacos as well. But yea...it was WAY enough... Spent about $19 for: Super Fries (HUGE, btw), 4 tacos (carnitas, carne asada, chicken, and pastor...all amazing), and 2 taquitos (lots of meat, very crispy) and comes with free chips and salsa, so I put the super fries on top of a chip for an extra crunch. My fave taco overall was the chicken, super juicy and oh-so-flavorful! I usually like carne asada, but the chicken is where it's at. The guac was amazing...so creamy, best I've ever had. The super hot, hot sauce was spicier than most places out there, so if you like spicy like I do, definitely get some of that! Oh! And they're specialty is the wet burrito...haven't tried it, but I will be as soon as I find someone or two to split with me. They are GIANT. This is a must-try spot in the heart of Temple City, no more driving to LA for awesome Mexican food!

  • Devlin C.

The best Mexican Food I have had in a long while. Super Fries with asada and pastor were very good and not greasy at all. Taquitos were crispy and fresh. Soft tacos was amazing. The "hot hot sauce" was pretty spicy. A gem in TC.

  • Danny D.

This place has great Mexican food at a great price. The best part about this place besides the food is the customer service. I haven't had this good of customer service in awhile. They really take care of you here and if there is something that is not on the menu and they have it, they will make it to your liking unlike many places where the person taking the order will tell you what they can and can't do; and to top it off, they're not even the one cooking the food, they're only taking the order.. I believe a waiter or waitress should always find a way to get you what you want or at least do their best and try and that's exactly what they do here. 5 stars for sure!!

  • jerry e.

I wish these good reviews were true. But, I've been there twice recently. The food is so very bland for Mexican food. The cook and the owner just don't get it. You can go to almost any Mexican restaurant and have a satisfying dinner. I hate to see a local business do poorly. It can't be that difficult to find a cook with good recipes.

I consider myself pretty picky when it comes to Mexican restaurants. My test are the defried beans. They did not disappoint. The food is very good. The place is very clean and the staff is very nice and friendly. I can't wait to try more dishes on the menu. The prices are great and won't break the bank! Thumbs up!

  • Rosanna S.

The guy that was serving me had hickies all over his neck and tried to cover it up with crusty bandaids. What are you...a middle school boy in heat "scamming" behind the bleachers? Probably never coming back. We just tried their tacos. Asada, Al Pastor, Shrimp, & Fish tacos. Their sautéed veggies are from a bag of frozen vegetables cooked in olive oil or butter. Their chips and drinks were located in a closet. Weird. The food was nothing to remember and we were the only customers there.

So far I've had the fish tacos and shrimp burrito and they are both amazing. The fish is deep fried and has cabbage and tomatoes topped with some delicious sauce. It's a cozy little restaurant and the waiter was very friendly. Now it is a place I visit weekly.

Came back here for lunch for Taco Tuesday. $.99 all day for small tacos. Choice of asada, shredded beef, pollo, carnitas, or al pastor. Tacos were small but good. Tried the Emmoladas this time around. I wasnt a fan of this particular dish only because the mole sauce was too sweet for my taste. Overall im still a fan of their other food Staff here is nice and friendly.

Quality mexican food at an affordable price. YES! PARKING: Street FOOD: -Chips&Salsa: Salsa is mild in flavor, and I wish they offered a spicier version. It's super fresh though! Chips are seriously addictive and definitely not the store bought variety. -Asada quesedilla: On point with the amount of meat, and they obliged when I requested less cheese (I'm starting to become lactose!). Served with sour cream and guac. -Chicken fajitas: I love it when people order fajitas because the hot plate is just so DRAMATIC with sizzle! Boy said it was delicious. The serving size was phenomenal. SERVICE: Super fast service. The waiter kept our drinks full and refilled our chips when I demolished them. They had a karaoke session set up during our dinner. Very cute! P.S. -The red sauce is straight up fire. I loved it!

LOVE this place! The food is so delicious. My favorite is the Big Relleno burrito. Happy hour is excellent as well! 3-6 PM. Service is always super friendly. Highly recommend!

  • Natasha B.

The food is garbage. First, the salsa tastes like watered down tomato sauce. Their chicken nuggets are those frozen dinosaurs you get at any grocery store. The fish is also frozen and just thrown in the deep fryer. Yuck. I'm assuming the shrimp is frozen too because my husband said he didn't even taste it. The vegetables seem to be a mix from another frozen bag. The taquitos came plain. No cheese, lettuce, tomato, or sour cream. The guacamole it did come with is watered down somehow and is a fake green color. The food came so quick and luke warm. The only thing good was the service. Save your money and keep driving.

Really Yelp? Four stars for this place? Who is eating here and liking it? We looked in the windows and the place was empty on a Monday evening at 7:00pm... but a quick check of Yelp showed a decent rating, so we decided to go for it. What a disappointment. NOTHING we ordered was seasoned. It was all so bland we were adding salt and limes to everything; desperate for some flavor. First problem: flavorless, unseasoned salsa that was more like plain tomatoes blended into a pink foam. Second problem: 3 taquitos special with rice and beans. 3 taquitos straight outta a freezer bag. No flavor and those thin slices of "meat" rolled up with the tortilla, served with the neon green fake guacamole that you squeeze from a pouch. I have never had such bland, flavorless refried beans in my life. The rice was, you guessed it, flavorless! Seriously, the chef must not ever use salt or spices or herbs. The last perplexing item on the plate was a scoop of straight-up frozen vegetable medley from any random supermarket bag... not even dressed up with a lil butter. Third problem: Al pastor burrito, wet with red sauce. The red sauce tasted exactly like a can of tomato sauce. No flavor, no seasoning. The meat didn't taste like any al pastor I've ever tasted and it was dry. This plate also received a scoop of frozen vegetable medley. Fourth problem: the Monday margarita was a zero alcohol blend of ice and sugar and sweetened margarita mix. It was soooooo sweet, one sip made my fillings hurt. We didn't send anything back or cause a fuss while there. Just quietly ate our awful food and vowed never to return.

I was looking around on yelp for restaurants that would deliver around 8-9 am because I was too lazy to go out myself. I called approximately around 9 am and they said they don't deliver until 10 am. I was a little disappointed, but it was understandable because it was still pretty early in the morning. After reading a couple reviews I decided to give this place a shot. I ordered super fries with asada and pastor + a fish taco. Total came up to about $11-12 bucks, kinda pricey but damn it was better than I expected. The fries were a pretty large portion and not greasy or soggy at all! The fish taco was pretty bomb too, probably would've tasted better if I ate it on the spot. Overall I would definitely come back again sometime.

I've come here a couple times over the last few months, and I've been happy every time. The food is fantastic. Don't let the simple hole in the wall front fool you. The food is authentic and tasty. The service has always been really friendly. If you want spicy, I will warn you. The food doesn't have a lot of heat to it. Being part Mexican, I always known that Mexican food is regional, and that some regions are not that spicy. However, most non-Hispanics think that all Mexican food is made with chiles. Look past that preconception and you'll really enjoy your meal.

  • Mariya G.

Flavorful of food is good, very small portion for price. A plate with two small tacos with rice and beans is $8.95. Service is good. There was only one server/host but he handled 4 tables pretty well. Check for two people came out to $30, the tiny taco plate which was already overpriced at $8.95 was on my receipt for $10.95... Not a nice way to do business. Waaaaay overpriced for two $1 size street tacos. Definitely not worth it...

This place was super cute...but also super random just because it's surrounded by nothing but nail salons or Chinese restaurants. The night I went to get food they had karaoke and there were these two ladies singing all sorts of songs and I got to listen to them while I was waiting for my food to take to go and they served as a pretty good source of entertainment. So bravo ladies. Now to the food and service... The service was nice. Everyone was so polite and welcoming and the food came out pretty quickly. I ate their cheese enchiladas with their green sauce (which one of the waiters recommended over the red sauce and was really tasty by the way) and the plate came with beans, rice, and vegetables. I normally find the rice in most Mexican joints to be dried out and tasteless but their rice was flavorful and didn't have the texture of cardboard. The enchiladas were super cheesy and the sauce was hearty and delicious. I saw a waitress walking over to a table with some flan and it looked SO good! Parking is pretty simple...got a spot right in the front!

Wedged in the midst of mostly Asian restaurant is this Mexican restaurant in Temple City. I would've never found this place if not for yelp. The place was kind of empty on a Wednesday night. We were greeted warmly. The chips and salsa were to die for. I would've come here just for those. We ordered the mole enchilada and Fiesta platter. Mole was great. It's rare to get mole right but this place did it. Fiesta platter however was just okay. Can't wait to come back for the mocajete...I think that's the stone pot with meat and cheese. ..looks yummy. How this place is not packed is beyond me. Oh this place serves alcohol too.

Came here with my family for breakfast this morning and was so impressed with the service, the environment, and of course, the food. We walked in a minute after their breakfast special ended and they still gave us the discount ($5 breakfast entrees); the owner, his wife, and the staff were so friendly and sweet. While we waited for our food, we ate warm chips with phenomenal salsa and drank tasty coffee. I ordered the Huevos a la Mexicana, and it was also delicious, made with quality ingredients. If looking for a great breakfast spot, look no further.

GREAT CATERING!!!! We had El Ruizeñor cater our son's birthday party for 25 people. Ordering was easy and everyone we spoke to was helpful and friendly. The delivery of the food was very professional. We got much more food than we expected all for a very fair price. They brought everything from plates and utensils to warm tortillas and three different salsas!!! Our guests raved about the food. We couldn't be happier.

We came here for a Friday dinner for three families after reading all of those good reviews from Yelp. We only ordered two entrees and one platters, and when we left we still got some leftover to pack. No doubt the food is well worth the money. When we came back the second time weeks later, the waiter still remembers us. Food is same good, if not more delicious. And of course, the portion is large, we ordered one more entree this time, and as you can imagine, packed more when leaving. Try it, you won't regret.

It's getting four stars because it is in Temple City and a great change of pace from all the Chinese food. The food is hit and miss, portions generous, place very clean, attentive staff, tv's could go, serve liquor, good prices. Give it a go.

First of all, I'm sorry I didn't jump on the bandwagon and rate this place with 5 stars like everyone else, but a place has to be beyond my expectations to rate a 5.. It is a very quaint place. Looks very new and clean. The staff is very friendly. They offer everything on their menu all day. I saw the lunch menu was from 11am-3pm, but the waiter said everything is available. Cool! There was something specific I was looking for on the menu, didn't see, but asked about it and they were very accommodating to make it. The chips were abundant (more than what we were able to eat and my family members are chip eaters). I was very disappointed with the salsa. It was bland. I'm not really a fan of tomato sauce-based salsas. It needed some flavor...salt...heat...something! What we ordered: 2 item combo with Asada Sope and Chicken Enchilada. Delicioso! Everything was flavorful. Weird that veggies are served with it. I was a little disappointed you get a pretty big serving of beans and veggies but there was barely any rice. The waiter asked if I'd like hot sauce. Um...YES!! Used the hot sauce and boy...it should be called hot hot sauce. I went from the salsa being bland to the hot sauce being an inferno. I can handle heat, so it was fine, but for the average patron, it may have been too hot. The red AND green "hot sauce" (I normally call it salsa verde and salsa roja) were super duper hot. Not on the menu, but a bean and cheese burrito. It was good, but average. Taco Salad. This dish was HUGE! It's nice to see a place use iceberg lettuce AND nice green romaine lettuce also. Everything was really fresh. The chicken was very well marinated and flavorful. No need to put dressing or salsa on it. Definitely something to try again. First impression made me nervous (chips and salsa), but they redeemed themselves with their entrees! They'll see us again.

Update: (3/14/14) Food is still freaking delicious, and I'm always asking for weird things on the side or adding eggs/potatoes to my enchiladas... and they do it for me. Staff is still attentive and super awesome Please, please support this local joint, we don't get many restaurants that offer such delicious home style cooking anymore. /tiredoffastfood ============================================== If you're looking for really good authentic mexican food, this is the place to eat. We are lucky to have such a place in Temple City. I've tried just about everything on their menu and go there at least once a week. Parking: I usually park right in front. It is on a busy street so if you're going north on temple city blvd you are fine, you can just pull over to the right shoulder and park. If you're going south, you'll have to bust a U or J walk. Staff: Courtesy and attentive. I've only seen 2 people work there when I've been, and they are both awesome. Decor/Ambiance: Very homey feel, with Voleros/Mariachi music playing in the background at a decent volume where you can actually have a conversation. They have one LCD TV which they usually play a range of spanish channels. All in all, a great dining experience. Definitely worth checking out!

My wife and I always drive past this place and nearly all the time there's hardly anyone inside. Yet it has very favorable Yelp reviews and the food looks delicious in the pics. Truth to tell, I was wondering if those reviews were planted or something. But based on the pictures I wanted to try it out so there we went. During our dinner visit, there was only one other table occupied, and this on a Saturday evening. They started us out with chips and salsa. The chips are crisp and have a good texture, and the salsa was tasty. My wife ordered a tostada and I had the shrimp enchiladas, based on the waiter's recommendation of that over the enmoladas. I'm not a tostada fan so I didn't try any of my wife's order but she really liked it. My shrimp enchilada plate was a large portion, with a good amount of shrimp. It came with rice, beans and some veggies and overall I was pleased. It's nice having a good Mexican eatery in the area. Our waiter was nice, too. I think it was the cook who came out and asked us how we liked our food and we gave our meal a thumbs up. Why is this place so deserted most of the time? It's a mystery to me except maybe all people want to eat is Chinese food in the area? That's a shame, because El Ruizenor deserves more business. Our meals were just like the pics in Yelp and just as tasty as they look. Inside is comfortable and clean, too.

Came here a few months ago. Place was empty, but the food and service were good. We were near finishing our salsa and were very quickly offered a spicier version, which was much more to my liking.

I like to support local business, but the waiter at this restaurant is straight rude and making this owner's business look bad. My order of tacos came back with onions and cilantro and my co worker was not aware of my allergy to cilantro and when I went over for a new order the waiter refused to exchange the order and said the only thing I can do is repurchase a new order of tacos. Yes. A new order of tacos. I left and noticed roaches on the floor, to match the uneducated waiter.

I called in my order and when I arrived. The young hostess came out of the back pulling up her pants with a tall dude following, zipping up. I said I called in an order and she said u must of called the Asian place across the street. I told her I have the number on my speed dial. And she told me they're closed. I looked at the sign on the window. And they have been open for hours. I don't get it. If they want to make money they shouldn't chase away customers because the hostess is making whoppee in the back room. I will never visit this place again. It's a shame. There is no good Mexican places around here.

We've been here twice. The first time, my husband and I both had the menudo. It was not very good so it took us a while to try this restaurant again. Today we tried it a 2nd time. The pork in my chile verde was a bit dry (but flavorful) but my husband's chicken mole was a little thin. Sort of disappointed again. We probably won't be back.

This place is so good! I grew up in Temple City and all we've ever had for good Mexican food was Casa Del Rey. I recently moved back from Irvine and have been trying to find a new Mexican fix. I told my friend and she suggested that we try this place out. In two weeks I've been here three times. I've had the chorizo breakfast burrito twice and just now had the super fries. This place is awesome, must try if you live near TC.

I'm sorry. Who are these people writing the reviews? The food is average. Can't possibly give a five star. I ordered the roger burrito. All I can taste was saltiness. There is no flavor to the food. We also had the steak fajitas. Again, the flavor just isn't there. Two stars for friendly services.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
